Inspiration behind Jenfluence

Maybe you've seen me tweet about Jenfluence or reference it on Facebook.

What is it?

Where did it come from?

Why does it matter?

Most of those questions are answered here, but I want you to know where the entire thought process actually started.

Short answer: Chick-fil-A.

As a new team member at Chick-fil-A, you're immediately immersed into video after video of all of the important facets of the business – everything from how to make a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich to what to do in case of a fire.

However, the key video, the one that leaves the most lasting impression, the one that I have shown to multiple teams since I left Chick-fil-A is "Every Life Has a Story."

You can watch it here:

For a team member, this video is to make sure you keep in mind the customer's day and their own personal experiences that are bringing them into the restaurant.

For me, this video became a turning point for how I interact with people on a daily basis and for how I want others to see me interact with people:

  • When I'm trying to calm down my threenager in Target because she doesn't want to leave.
  • When I'm talking to my kids' teachers about school.
  • When I'm ordering food from a trainee who's slow on the register.
  • When I'm introduced to a stranger through a mutual friend about a common interest.
  • When I'm going through the drive-thru and the bank teller speaks through the intercom.
  • When I see a single mom with full hands trying to board the airplane.

Whenever it is, whatever it is, whoever it is - the concept that each person is living their own reality is a truth we need to remind ourselves of daily.

So, what was the easiest way to remind myself that my interactions will influence those that see my actions?

JENFLUENCE.

And here it is in blog form.

Welcome to a collection of my ideas that you are welcome to use, adapt, or completely ignore.

Whatever you do, don't forget that the next person you interact with has their own story their writing and you, yes you, have the capacity to positively influence that life.
